It’s the summer and as usual I’ve installed myself in my summer studio in the small hill top village of maials. I find it very stimulating to work here because there are very few distractions apart from taking care of my children. My influences while here include: wild flowers, flower bushes, plant stems and branches, rural architecture; fences, tiles, tire tracks, tractors, faded paint flaking off walls, stone, multi coloured house coats hanging in a stall on market day.
I’m working on some large square canvases for a show in September pushing myself with this new scale and going back to acrylics after a long time with gouache. I’m also using spray paint for the first time. It’s very exciting not knowing what I’m doing. I’m feeling the need to control the process but I can’t because the materials won’t let me. One suggestion from my MFA assessment was to use a set of verbs to help my practice, I’ve discussed this in another post. But I always forget and I’m not sure it’s the way forward for me… But I shall have another go.
